Method
OurPath works from a defined method rather than an improvised one. Four elements hold it together.
Ṣuḥba as the frame
Disciplined companionship, the relationship through which knowledge has long been transmitted in the Islamic tradition. It sets the terms of the work: sustained, attentive, and accountable in both directions.
A six-phase pathway
The al-Masīr pathway gives an engagement its shape, moving through six defined phases. Each phase has its own focus and its own practices, so both mentor and mentee know where the work currently sits.
The OurPath Compass Scale
A reflective instrument across five dimensions, used to notice movement over time. It is a tool for reflection, not an assessment, a screening tool or a diagnostic measure.
Four mentor stances
A mentor works from four defined stances, chosen deliberately according to what the moment requires. Naming them makes the choice visible and reviewable rather than instinctive.
What this is, and what it is not
OurPath provides non-clinical developmental guidance. We do not diagnose, treat, or provide therapy or counselling, and nothing we do substitutes for clinical care.
Some things fall outside our scope. Where they do, we say so early and direct you toward appropriate support rather than working beyond our remit. That referral protocol is part of the method and is agreed in writing before an engagement begins.
If you need clinical support, speak to your GP or call NHS 111. If you need to talk to someone urgently, Samaritans are available on 116 123, free, at any hour.
Ustadh Shakil Moazzem
Ustadh Shakil Moazzem holds a classical ʿĀlimiyyah qualification in the Islamic sciences and serves as an imam and teacher at Qiman, an institute of Arabic and Islamic sciences in London.
He is also completing a BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship at Coventry University, employed by Camden Council. The degree is in progress. Holding both trainings at once is what allows OurPath to work from classical Islamic pedagogy and occupational science together, without collapsing either into the other.
He founded OurPath Guidance Ltd to make that convergence available as structured, non-clinical guidance, and works with mosques and Muslim organisations on building pastoral capacity.
